I enjoyed chatting candidly with Ming Pao — on culture, heritage, and breaking stereotypes.
I appreciate how they were able to capture the cultural nuances that are part of my identity, while also pushing forward the reality that in many ways, the cultural divide between the Philippines and Hong Kong is not so far apart as one may think.
“Filipinos seem to be both near and far to us... But Crisel Consunji, a Filipino who has lived in Hong Kong for 13 years and is a performer and educator, tells us that Filipinos are far more than these vague impressions of ‘others.’ From their interesting daily life culture, we may be able to find some traces of our own culture.” (As translated online)
Thank you for sharing a lot of the things I’m passionate about, and for letting me talk about the culture and heritage I come from ❤️
